BRITISH COLUMBIA YEAR IN REVIEW

Ahoy Matee! Sails and Tails is a swimming success!

Sails and Tails, this year’s charity auction in support of BC Guide Dog Services and Autism Support Dogs, took place on May 15, 2010.  We celebrated a new venue – the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club – with a nautical theme and a new format. Sailors and sea dogs alike enjoyed the cocktail reception, nautical nibbles and, of course, the fabulous auction items!

Thank you to the entertainers for the evening: Heather and Jordan provided beautiful background music while Magician Christopher James captivated everyone with his illusions. Thanks to our auctioneer, Ian Paton, for a lively live auction segment.

We extend our gratitude to Heather Hutchison and Nicole Kaler who gave moving speeches about the impact their Guide and Autism Support Dogs have made to their lives, and the lives of their families.
A big thank you and wag of the tail to all our fabulous donors and tireless volunteers, without whom this event would not be possible.

Nothing trivial about raising $16,000-plus for guide dogs

BC Guide Dog Services had its best ever Trivia Night fundraiser November 21 in Ladner. More than $16,000 was raised when 450 people packed the gymnasium at Ladner’s Sacred Heart Church to support the organization.

William Thornton, CEO of BC Guide Dog Services, said, "I’m overwhelmed by our growing number of supporters. This event sold out in record time."

Once again, Joanne Sutton was excellent in her role as MC throughout the fast-paced evening. Highlights included the introduction of Delta South MLA Vicki Huntington and Delta Councilor Scott Hamilton, as well as a parade of guide dog teams.

Many thanks to Joanne, the panel of judges, the volunteers, Sacred Heart Church and all of our supporters who attended this fabulous evening of fun and fundraising.

West End Dog Show

For the second year in a row the West End Dog Show was another great success. With 50% more people and dogs attending, everyone had a fantastic day.  Our sincere thanks to the organizers for doing such a great job, and, for once again, choosing BC Guide Dog Services as the recipient for all the funds raised.

Dog Days of Summer

Although the day started with rain, the afternoon turned bright and sunny. Everyone, including the dogs had a wonderful time. All the Bowen Island locals came out in full force with their four legged friends. Our sincere thanks go out to all the organizers and volunteers who helped to make it a success.

London Drugs

Another successful year with London Drugs – thank you! London Drugs continues with their commitment to BC Guide Dog Services by allowing us to put our collection tins in their stores for an entire month. This is such an important fundraiser for us and we are very grateful for their support.

BC Liquor Stores

A sincere thank you to all the lower mainland and Victoria liquor stores for allowing us to once again put our collection tins in the liquor stores for a month this year. Their continued support over the years has been very important for us and helped enormously with our fundraising efforts.

13th Annual Golf for Guide Dogs

Our 13th Annual Golf for Guide Dogs saw us at a new venue in 2010 - Beach Grove Golf Club in Tsawwassen.  We had nine great years at Mayfair Lakes and have moved this year due to an unfortunate fire there.  Beach Grove took us on short notice and we were delighted to be "back home" in South Delta.

Again, our Golf Tournament was a great success - not only for raising funds for BC Guide Dog Services and our sister charity, Autism Support Dogs - but it also serves the important role of raising our profile in the community.

Thanks to all the golfers who braved a damp day on the course – all had a great time!

We would like to take this moment to say a big thank you to our Tournament Hosts – the Kiwanis Club of Tsawwassen, Ladner.

We extend our gratitude to all of our tournament sponsors and supporters, without whom our tournament would not be, the success that it is:

Thank you to Joanne Sutton, who once again was an excellent MC, and to our outstanding auctioneer, Norm Brown.  We would also like to extend our thanks to the staff and management of Beach Grove for their hospitality and hard work.

A very special thank you to all the volunteers whose tireless efforts are integral to our organization – we couldn’t do it without you!

On March 7, 2009 Rock'n Roll For Little Souls held its 8th annual benefit dance. BC Guide Dog Services was once again lucky to be one of the recipients of the funds raised at this event. Our sincere thanks to everyone involved.
