International Guide Dog Federation
British Columbia Guide Dog Services and its division, Alberta Guide Dog Services, is an accredited member of the International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF). Accreditation takes place every five years and is a comprehensive audit of all guide dog technical aspects within the organization which include:
- Humane care, training and treatment of dogs
- Applicant/client selection
- Client & guide dog team instruction and follow up
- Breeding, puppy raising & veterinary services
- Guide dog assessment and training;
- Technical staff, education and development;
- Administration;
- Buildings and transport;
- Kennel housing; and
- Guide dog mobility instructor course curriculum.
Our last IGDF accreditation took place June 13 - 16, 2007 and is valid until June 2012.
